Wanted! Young Entrepreneurs in Colchester
Finding activities for young teens that stretch them and are fun at the same time, well, it’s near impossible.
I say ‘near’ because Mark Allington, a Colchester business man has done something rather exciting for the teens of Colchester. I think Mark has come up with a sure fire winner.
Now that summer holidays are out of the way, I am looking for 12 people aged 16 to 30 who want to be a part of my first ever “Colchester Young Entrepreneurs” course. Designed as an eight week practical course, our objective is to take an idea for a product and/or service to market on a start-up budget. The course will be run for 90 minutes every weekend.
How many times have you had an idea, and then 6 months later seen it done by someone else? Now is the time to learn how to take your own products/services to market. It doesn’t matter if you have a full time job, or you are a full time Mum/Dad, being entrepreneurial doesn’t mean you have to invest 80 hours a week to be successful – in fact, quite the opposite is common.
Wiki states: “An entrepreneur is a person who has possession over a company, enterprise, or venture, and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome.”
There are many different types of Entrepreneur – but the one thing they have in common is a need to achieve their goals. The course aims to take a digital/information based idea to marketable “product/service” in a short period of time. Together, as a small team, a single idea shall be implemented and taken to market. You can then take the knowledge from this course and easily apply it to other products/services.
The course is structured around the following elements:
* Idea generation
* Research and analysis (customers, competition, costs and revenue model, risk and mitigation, implementation plan, delivery, support and maintenance)
* Branding
* Marketing and Advertising
* Short Plan
* Product Creation and Trial Run
* Seeking investment
* Review and Refactor
* Company Formation and Accounts
The course costs £15.00 per week – money used to fund course project and weekly meeting room. I am not charging for my time.
To find out more, please complete the form below, and I will be happy to send you an “Application Request” form. Please note, numbers are limited to only 12 people for this pilot course. A little about me and some testimonials
Criteria:
* £15 per week commitment
* You own a computer and you have an internet connection
* You live within 5 miles of Colchester (for the Pilot Course)
* Attend weekly meetings (between 1 and 2 hours per week)
* Investment of 4 to 6 hours of your time each week
We will provide all necessary software/tools required for the course.
The course will start as soon as we have filled the 12 places. If you are already a local successful entrepreneur and you want to lend your support, please contact me directly on 07734217299.
It’s times like this, I wish we lived nearer to Colchester. What do you think?

Antoine’s Art Exhibition in Saffron Walden, Essex
An art exhibtion by Antione De Villiers is available to view from the 11th October to 10th November 2008.
Some can be viewed online here – Antoine’s Art
She is the veteran of 45 art exhibitions throughout South Africa, the United States and Europe brings 30 of her most recent artworks to London. Antoine’s originals will be displayed in two exhibitions during October.
The first will be from October 11 – November 10 with I2 Art Gallery, 26-28 Church Street, Saffron Walden, Essex, CB10 1JQ. And the second with The Bronze Gallery, 63 High Street, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, RG 27 8NY. The latter will be from October 12 –30.
Antoine, a country girl from the dry, northern part of South Africa, picked up a brush after a traumatic accident at the age of 18 and turned a series of devastating events into inspiration. She gained international recognition at the age of 23 and had her first solo exhibition abroad in Notting Hill, London two years later.
“Eating, breathing, creating… all equally vital for my existence, my personal artwork is solely a form of self expression. When I discovered that I could create visions on canvas that matched the thoughts in my mind, I experienced a great sense of relief. I create because I have to. No matter what the future holds, I will always be creating.”
She uses oil on canvas, drawings, sculpture and photography exploring the human form from an ‘honest and serene’ perspective.
“Nude figure studies are certainly one of my most preferred themes. Every single figurative piece I create, I attempt to approach with the highest respect for the human form. My aim is to capture the real and raw moments of our every day life, accepting things as they truly are. I do not wish to glorify, but simply to accept, interpret and reflect.”
Well worth a view if you are in or near Saffron Walden.
