Blogging for World Aids Day
December 1, 2008
I have been trying to think of a blog for World AIDS day without much success, so I shall just write about what I know, which is not much and what I tell my daughters.
I tell my daughters that AIDS is an Equal Opportunities disease. It doesn’t care what gender you are or what race you are. It doesn’t care how old you are or how Stupid you are. AIDS loves it that you have sex, the more you have the more chance you have of getting it. It doesn’t care whether you are gay or straight, whether you are having sex for the first time, or the millionth time. In fact AIDS loves it that you can be so caught up and hormonal you forget to use a condom… I have told them you can beat it, by not having unprotected sex. The only thing AIDS fears is that you are clever, and that you plan and that you use a condom. I fear my explanation is too simplistic.
Sally Church, Pharmaceutical Marketing Strategist has an excellent blog where she explains about AIDS, you can read it here.

Earlier this year, I lost an internet friend to this disease and although we had never met, I loved him dearly. We feel his loss deeply, and wonder of all the things that might have been. He was young, and well loved, treasured. As I say to my daughters, it’s an Equal Opps killer, and it really doesn’t care.
So, those are my thoughts on World Aids Day. I shall remember the victims in my prayers, along with the hope of a cure.
Sarah

I don’t think your explanation is simplistic at all, and I hope you don’t mind that I quote you on my blog (with, of course, full reference & ping back to you!). It’s so important for everyone to be aware of AIDS, which is unfortunately still very much present. You can also direct your readers to http://saharsblog.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/worlds-aids-day-some-basic-information/ if they want more information, and to http://saharsblog.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/world-aids-day-more-for-those-who-want-to-read/ for those who are looking for a great book to read about HIV/AIDS. Keep blogging!
