Secret Santa and online gift shopping….
December 16, 2008
I just read a blog about ‘Secret Santa‘, and whilst I read it I realised ’secret santa’ has several meanings.
I first heard about this years ago, from a work colleague. People all paid a fiver, and was allocated a random name from a hat and they bought a Christmas gift for the person, but it couldn’t cost more than a fiver. It wasn’t a game of being nice it was explained to me, but buying the most unsuitable present for a fiver. Example, you bought a bald person a swimming hat….
The original story of ’secret santa’ can be read over here and it’s about Random Acts of Kindness. Everyone who thinks Santa is too commercial should be over here, on this site and doing their bit.
I have been reading on BT Tradespace that they are going to be doing a secret santa too, and shopping for their gifts from the Tradespaces that they host. As online communities go, I felt this was the best way of supporting the many small businesses that advertise there. Although I don’t have any items to sell there – other than collection, delivery & courier services, I have found that it’s a vibrant place to buy your Christmas gifts.
I have discovered the excellent My Kitchen Store, Elaine sells the most amazing things… like the flip up / swivel TV for the kitchen, and hot pink splashbacks! I sooo want a green radiator… yes, I know it wont go with anything, but I want one all the same. Even if it means redecorating the entire house to match the radiator and the splashback…
Fairy Doors? ever heard of those? another Tradespacer Olivia from the Wishing Tree was telling me about these over twitter. My girls would love fairy doors
So, if you are secret santa’ing or really being santa, you could do a lot of good by taking a look at the suppliers on BT Tradespace, and if you are selling - you should be on there promoting your goods asap. they also have funky banners like the ones displayed in this post
