Barking – is it Essex or is it East London

I know people in Barking who swear it’s East London, and it’s official title is the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.. but it has an Essex postcode and is also called Barking, Essex.

Yesterday I went to one of Barking’s hidden treasures – The Barking Cafe in East Street. This is a lovely cafe with coloured wooden panels on the walls, formica tables that look like wood, simple paintings of horses and country side were on display and its spotlessly clean. Just in case you need reminding how clean it is displayed on the walls are their results from recent hygiene audits – 5 stars Also displayed are their awards. For several years running they have won best cafe in London and other awards.

This cafe had a lovely ambience until we were served by the waiter but hey it’s East London right

We had typical food for my grandmother – egg and bubble, the girls had cheese on toast and chips and I had a can of Tango. There was still change from a fiver! I cannot recall when I last ate out and had change from a fiver. It’s only simple things but even our local cafe is more expensive than that and no where near as clean, you could have eaten your dinner off one of the floors here.

So if you are ever in Barking and feeling a little hungry, stop in and see what you think of the Barking Cafe.
