Not content with the average speed cameras on the A127, Essex is now getting to trial Road Charging via the ‘Spy in the Sky’.
Fortunately John Baron, the Billericay based MP has spoken out about it already – civil liberties infringement no less.
He said: “This feels like another stealth tax at a time when households are already being squeezed.
“There is also an issue of civil liberties. It’s like Big Brother when the Government starts knowing exactly where you’ve been in your car.”
Unfortunately for us, Essex people are not prone to protesting and this is going to be foisted on us too. I am particularly annoyed that a government who cannot look after the data of millions and a local authority that cannot empty the bins from one week to the next, now get to decide what I should be paying to drive from a to b.
How many school mums will be penalised for taking their kids to school, my daughters school is 12 miles away… and £1.50 a mile that’s £36 a day… road tax and fuel duty do not cost me that!
Yeah I know… send her on public transport so she can be mugged for her iPod and the police won’t be bothered investigating because they will be too busy fining motorists…
What will it do for businesses in Essex? Nothing. Just like the London Emission Zone that was put in by Londons former Mayor (whom Essex residents cannot vote for…) it will be a big hindrance to business. Makes me wish I was a civil servant thinking up all these crackpot schemes.
Disgruntled in Essex, thinking of moving to Kent…

I am sure it will go to consultation first in the same way it did in Manchester.
They rejected it and so should you and the people of Essex.
Road charging may come, but their is a long way to go first.
